The use of cutting-edge technology in logistics is on the rise

By How it works

Once upon a time the barcode was a game-changer. It was patented in the 1950’s and got widely used a few decades later.

Today, scanning is accompanied by automation, voice recognition, RFID, robotics, video, and machine learning … The use of cutting-edge technology in logistics continues to be on the rise.

What are the differences between to digitize, digitalize or engage in a digital transformation? SiB Solutions’ Arianna Benigno, CPO, guides us:

What it is: We talk of digitization every time we convert information into a digital item. This process is then a small step towards a more digital way of working. A very good example is the scanning of old documents into a picture which becomes then their digital representation.

It is called digitization since we are transforming analog signals (continue) into digital ones, where the information is either 0 or 1.

Why and when is it beneficial: Digitization can increase productivity, streamline operations, reduce costs, and boost efficiency. Digitization might require some changes to the processes as such. Most people involved could struggle a bit with the change, as this affects how they work on a daily base.

Digitization and SiB Solutions’ intelligent video services, an example: Our stand-alone intelligent video service for hubs, a low-tech site, often unmanned and located far off the main premises, is an example of digitization. We are making digital what is happening in those locations. The service can be implemented without WiFi.

What it is: Digitalization can be described as “to use innovative digital technology to improve processes”. If we take the document above, it would be to digitalize instead of just digitize if we add the capability to utilize the document (search words within the text, for example).

Why and when is it beneficial: Digitalization gives you all the benefits with digitization – and more. Keep an open mind when inviting innovative technologies into your business; you will quickly discover new high potential processes, roles, and ways to collaborate. A digitalization effort does not go unnoticed for the people involved. It might affect only a limited number of people that will have to be involved in the change, but it might be also widespread.

Digitalization and SiB Solutions’ intelligent video services, an example: Have you ever tried to find out the root cause to a claim by asking the operator if they can recall a certain order? Well, if you have, you know that it is almost impossible to get one certain answer. Intelligent video analysis enables you to search and see what really caused a deviation. This is a hands-on example of digitalization.

What it is: A transformation is a long-lasting, major change. Digital transformation can lead to, or come from, profound changes in customer needs and/or revolutionized business models. Where digitize and digitalization are about the technology, digital transformation focuses on the customer. Mobile payments, media streaming and modern electrified vehicles are three examples.

Why and when is it beneficial: The fourth industrial revolution is ongoing. Already many big corporations have both targets and budgets allocated for projects in this sphere. Your only choices are to join the revolution, or to stay behind. Guide your organization to level up your already digitalized and high performing operations by using cutting edge technology. Wisely lead your people through a change that will keep you ahead of the game.

Digital transformation and SiB Solutions’ intelligent video services, an example: We let artificial intelligence add multiple super-powers to our intelligent video services. One example is the ability to guide operators in real time. The service gently nudges the staff to flawless packing one order at a time, leaving dramatically less claims to solve at all. Combine this with all our services to let your organization embraces the change.

Thank you Arianna for sharing!

Artificial Intelligence sets new logistics quality standards

By How it works, Logtech company

SiB Solutions is a logtech company that combines deep logistical know-how with cutting-edge technology to help companies eliminate errors in their logistics. Artificial Intelligence (AI), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and intelligent video analytics optimize logistics. With the SiB Solutions logtech platform, you can not only discover the cause of errors retroactively but you can also proactively prevent new logistics errors in real time. Combining the two enables a reduction of errors to 0%.

SiB Solutions’ services are intended for all companies that operate some form of logistics. The company’s services are specially adapted to logistics processes, such as picking, packing, consolidation and loading. Subscription-based, modular and scalable, these services can easily be customized to your business. You only pay for what you need and avoid having to make major investments at start-up. It is about securing the route of your goods, from the time they enter the warehouse until they leave it, ensuring the least possible degree of error.

“In addition to working with new technology, video and AI, the goal of our innovative approach is to discover errors. We are not content with simple optimization. We strive for error-free logistics because ‘good’ can always be ‘better’. There will always be errors to eradicate. With new technology, logistics can be error-free, at a justifiable cost,” says Stefan Borg, CEO of SiB Solutions.

SiB Solutions’ intelligent services include intelligent video cameras that capture critical stages of warehouse operations, process the material and send metadata to our cloud. Here, the metadata is combined with other data and is analyzed by the SaaS (software as a service) solution’s artificial intelligence. This enables companies to gain valuable insight into what is actually happening in the various stages of the process. Staff can use this information in many different ways; they can learn to better understand the process and thus improve it and the underlying system support.

“Our services are not intended to take over the duties of the underlying control systems, but to assist and guide. Our AI software can detect in real time when things are about to go wrong, enabling us to avoid what is otherwise irritating and costly. The goal is to use AI to reduce the effect of errors or, preferably, to eliminate as many errors as we can in real time. This is the core and backbone of our service offering,” says Stefan Borg.

SiB Solutions is constantly looking ahead. The world is changing and new technological opportunities and developments are emerging. In some areas, the pace is extraordinary. Not least within edge computing where the videos are stored and locally processed.

“We have a long list of ideas that we’ll be working on in the future, but it’s important to prioritize and do things in the right order. We are still relatively new on the market, so for us it is about getting what we’ve already built to as many companies as possible, as soon as possible. At the same time, we are refining our offering to increase its competitive edge over time,” Stefan Borg says.

As a logtech company, SiB Solutions benefits from collaborating with drivers of exciting technological innovations. Axis Communications, world leaders in video technology, manufactures the cameras used by SiB Solutions and IBM provides the cloud technology, guaranteeing a high level of security and performance.

“We’re now on our way going global with our offering. We already have customers operating in the US, Southeast Asia and South America, and we have been preparing our capabilities to install globally for some time. We anticipate that our customers will want to use our services in all their warehouses around the world. We will never be satisfied, instead, we constantly strive to move forward. Our focus will remain on the vision of obtaining flawless logistics,” concludes Stefan Borg.
